6.1: Defining Program Outcomes

Before collecting information about your Powerhouse® program, it is important to understand what the program is working toward and what positive change can look like for young caregivers. Across Powerhouse® programming, the overarching goal is to support increased resilience among young caregivers. Resilience can be strengthened in different ways depending on the type of program, activities, and needs of the young caregivers participating.

Not every Powerhouse® program will focus on or measure these areas in exactly the same way. For example, recreational programming may place greater emphasis on connection and well-being, while curriculum-based programming may provide more opportunities to build knowledge, coping skills, confidence, and application.

What is measured should reflect the type of Powerhouse® program being offered, while remaining connected to the overall goal of increasing resilience among young caregivers. The specific outcomes and evaluation tools for each program will be clearly outlined in the corresponding Powerhouse® Facilitation Guide.

★ Powerhouse® Tip: Keep in Mind – The outcomes tell us what we hope young caregivers will gain or experience through Powerhouse®. The next step is understanding how we gather information that helps us see whether those changes are happening.
