5.7: Program Space, Safety & Materials

In-Person Programming

Confirm your space works for the age group and activities you are planning, and that it can be supervised as set out in Lesson 3, Topic 3.5.

Before your first session:

  • Confirm any permits required by the school, facility, or venue, and keep physical copies on-site during programming.
  • Request a Certificate of Insurance from the venue. This is in addition to your organization’s own coverage — see Lesson 3, Topic 3.11.
  • Confirm accessibility, washroom access, and a space a facilitator can step into with a participant when needed.
  • Confirm first aid supplies are available on-site and someone is responsible for checking them.

Virtual Programming

Confirm your platform, who admits participants, and how session links are shared. Confirm what a young caregiver needs on their end to take part, and what your program will do when a participant cannot access a private space at home.

Materials & Storage

Your facilitator guide sets out the supply list for the format you are delivering. Confirm before your first cycle where program materials are stored, who is responsible for restocking, and how anything containing participant information is secured in line with Lesson 3, Topic 3.4.
