3.11: Insurance & Risk Management
Before delivering Powerhouse®, your organization should review its existing insurance coverage and risk-management practices to ensure they are appropriate for the program you plan to deliver.
Review Your Coverage
Consider whether your organization’s coverage appropriately reflects:
- Programming and services involving children and youth.
- Staff, volunteers, students, and others involved in program delivery.
- The locations where Powerhouse® will be delivered.
- Off-site activities, where applicable.
- Contractors or external facilitators, where used.
- Transportation, if your organization chooses to provide or arrange it.
Your organization should determine what insurance coverage, documentation, or certificates may be required based on its own operations and the way Powerhouse® will be delivered.
Consider Risk Before Programming Begins
Risk management goes beyond insurance. Consider how the policies and procedures established throughout this lesson work together to reduce risk and support participant safety. Before launching Powerhouse®, identify any areas where additional safeguards, documentation, or organizational approval may be needed.
★ Powerhouse® Tip: Before delivering Powerhouse®, review your organization’s existing insurance coverage and risk-management practices in relation to the program you plan to deliver, and talk with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage is appropriate.
✅ Key Takeaway: Insurance is one part of managing risk. Confirm that your coverage is appropriate for the people, settings, and activities involved in Powerhouse®, and make sure the safeguards outlined throughout this lesson work together to create a consistent approach to risk management.
